Ni River Middle School Named 2017 Steelcase Active Learning Center Grant Recipient

Spotsylvania, VA - Steelcase Education, Inc. announced on March 24th that Ni River Middle School is one of only 15 grant award recipients nation-wide for the 2017 Steelcase Education Active Learning Center grant competition. Over 960 educational institutions submitted applications to be considered for this year’s grant awards.

Ni River Middle School will receive a classroom make-over, transforming it into an Active Learning Center. The value of this grant award is $65,000.

Ni River Middle School Principal Scott Belako said, “We are very excited about receiving this grant as it will provide our students with a state of the art learner-centered environment. Students will have the opportunity to actively collaborate with their peers while teachers guide the student learning.” One area of interest for Ni River Middle School will be ensuring that instructional technology is effectively utilized within the Active Learning Center as the school works towards their goal of ensuring all students are becoming career and college ready.

School Board Member Dawn Shelley, who represents the Chancellor District said, “I am very excited for the Ni River Middle School staff and students. Our staff members work hard and this is such a well-deserved honor for them. This is another great example of how Spotsylvania County Public Schools is leading the way in instructional excellence in the 21st Century.”
